Fat Chicks need Blogs too!

27 Dec

This is a blog for fat chicks. There, I said it. FAT. I hope you won’t be offended, but I’ve had it with euphemisms like chubby, plump or plus size. Obviously, if you prefer to use words like curvy chicks, voluptuous women or big boned beauties, this isn’t the blog for you.

This blog is called VivaFAT. Because fat is just an adjective. Don’t let it define how you think and feel and act, and who you are as a person. Embrace it, own it. I think a healthy body image is a lot about acceptance and respect, and less about adhering to whatever the media dictates as the norm. Beauty and health does not depend on your dress size.

(Gosh, this is my first post. I’m rambling, sorry. Also, I’m technology challenged but I managed to put this blog together, which was a lot of fun.)

Slight rant: Personally, I’m sick and tired to open my fav magazine or website and find just another article on how to lose weight or similar stuff. I’m sick of feeling bad because I’m not a size 4 (insert your own number here). I’m sick of hearing about diet secrets. I’m sick of…I think you get the idea. /rant

Make no mistake—feel free to do whatever you want with yourself, your mind, your health, your body. But I won’t try to convince you to change. VivaFat is going to be free of weight-loss secrets and other crap. I will not cater to the billion-dollar weight loss industry.

I think we should live life just the way we are, and not strive to adhere to what society thinks is normal. Or beautiful. As the blog tagline says, beauty, health and happiness comes in all forms and shapes.

VivaFat is going to be about news and information and shopping tips for the fat chick.
VivaFat is about being comfortable with who you are. And it’s going to be about everything else that pops into my misguided and rambling mind.

So, is it okay to write a blog for fat chicks? Or to be more precise: is it okay to use the word FAT, instead of chubby or voluptuous or curvy? (Anyone, anyone? Bueller, Bueller?) Are you offended, concerned, or worse, bored? What do you think?

Not offended but saying fat chick is so taboo but love the idea!

fat is fine, obese I wouldn’t be so okay with. I think to a certain extent people can be fat and still healthy, but not so much once they get into the obese category. I’ve always thought people should fine themselves beautiful no matter what they look like, but at the same time realize if something is wrong health-wise they should work towards fixing that. I don’t think it’s just an obese thing either. As a guy not only is an anorexic looking chick that we so often find in magazines and on TV shows just as unattractive as an obese chick, but it could be just as unhealthy has being obese. I’ve had friends who have puked after meals and not eaten for days because they thought they were too fat and they didn’t even crack three digits. It’s sad. I think the number one thing is health. I think the number two thing is being happy with how you look and not striving for what you think everyone else thinks is ‘perfection’.

Interesting topic for a blog, and although I’m nowhere near a fat chick (I’m closer to being a chick than fat I guess) I’ll probably be stopping by again because I thought this first post was well written.

    Thanks to all who commented!

@Danniel Being happy and healthy is something worth striving for, agreed. I guess this blog is more about acceptance for who you are right now—hopefully without sounding preachy. It’s not my place to tell anyone how they should look, feel or weight anyway. Or judge anyone for that matter. But, hey, apart from writing possibly thought provoking posts, it’s totally my place to write about where fat chicks can find cool clothes and other neat stuff 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, Jerome. I’ll try to join the Notes once my blog is up and running for a dozen weeks or so. (Thanks for the tip!) And, yes, I pretty much dislike euphemisms, period.

Welcome to the fat o sphere, I saw your post on the forums and added some change…maybe a few dollars but anyway, hope you don’t mind. Keep up the good work!

Hey, thank you! I don’t mind at all that you jumped into the discussion in the forums. It was getting very lonely for me there 🙂 But I don’t think I’ll continue the discussion there, I don’t feel that they even tried to understand my point of view–and I tried. See you around the blogs!

Well, I like “curvy,” but I still think this is the blog for me. 😉

    • Chickie 01/04/2011 at 7:48 pm #

Well, yes, I wanted to push the envelope a little with the “fat” chicks part. (I’m glad you’re not offended, though.) I think I’m trying to write a blog for any women, curvy or plus-sized or “insert adjective of choice”, who is sick of being told that she can’t feel happy and beautiful and loved the way she is right now. Apart from that, we are all just works in progress.
